Kes Tor

Kes Tor (SX 665862) is a large block of granite that lies on top of Chagford Common on the NE side of the moor. The distinctive shape of the tor is easily recognised from many places. The views from Kes Tor over Chagford on one side and Gidleigh Common and the eastern highlands of Dartmoor on another side are excellent. Kes Tor used to be the traditional grandstand view for point to point races that finished just below the tor. Chagford Common and Shovel Down contain some impressive stone rows and old settlements. There are 5 stone rows, a stone circle and some standing stones.
Kes Tor is best accessed from Batworthy (SX 662865) and is a favourite Sunday afternoon walk. Although the ground around can be wet this is an incredibly easy walk - but well worth doing.
