Sandy Hole PassSandy Hole Pass is a beautiful part of Dartmoor. It lies (SX 621814) in the upper parts of the East Dart River about 2 miles NW of Postbridge.It can be approached in a number of ways. The quickest way is the following route. Park at the National Park bookshop (SX 646788) and take the Drift Lane path which starts at the western end of the car park. Proceed past Roundy Park, head in a NW direction, cross Braddon lake (a stream), walk over Broad Down and walk down to Sandy Hole Pass. Then head E over the southerly part of Winney's Down, cross the stream and make for the East Dart River in an E direction. At SX 638814 the River turns abruptly southwards. Follow the river back to Postbridge. There are paths on both sides of the river. This route took the east one.This walk takes about 3 hours. It is a straightforward walk, but maps and compasses must be taken. In adverse weather - problems may occur.It lies near to the Army firing range, but is not contained within it. But be aware of any red flags flying.
