Teignhead

This walk started from  a car park (SX 659839) in Fernworthy forest, which means walking about a mile along a forest path before getting onto the moor. Then take the SW path that leads to Sittaford Tor. From Sittaford head NW to Quintin's Man crossing over the upper Teign as you go. From Quintin's walk north over the peaty plateau to Whitehorse Hill and then take the peat path that leads to Hangingstone Hill. Take the northern track that leads to Wild Tor. After about 0.75 mile you'll come to a cairn. Turn off east towards Watern Tor - you'll cross the Walla brook on the way. From Watern head due south past the substantial cairn and then where the newtake wall divides into two take the left hand fork which takes you down the Manga valley towards Teignhead farm. You then cross the Teign and get back to the forest and the mile walk back to the car.
A 9 mile walk over some the highest ground to be found in Dartmoor (2 miles of the walk are in Fernworthy forest). None of it is really rough or wet though. But be careful of bad weather - it's quite isolated up here. Part of the walk lies in the army firing range.

Looking over towards Teignhead Great Mire from the track at SX 632850. This mire may well have once been a shallow lake until tinners drained it in their search for metal.
Another shot of the Great Mire but this time with a Dartmoor pony in the way.
The Manga brook with the trees of Fernworthy on the horizon. The remains of Teignhead Farm lie below the slope just where the trees poke up in the midground.
Looking over towards Sittaford Tor. Sittaford Hill is quite big and obvious, but its tors are very flat and undramatic.
