Birch TorBirch Tor is easy to get to and worth it for the good views over central Dartmoor. Just below the tor are the remains of Dartmoor's last tin mines.Park beside the Moretonhampstead - Postbridge road at SX 682819. Its a short walk up the hill in a SE direction to Birch Tor. Pause a while to admire the views and then carry on SE until you get to the stone row. Then change direction to NE and skirt past the Headland Warren farm, crioss the road and walk up the short slope to Hookney Tor. Then walk north along Shapley Common, turn west and cross by East Bovey Head and walk along the grassland near to the road until you get back to the car park. This is a modest little walk of nearly 3.5 miles. The last mile seems longer than it might be. Birch Tor is not in a military range.
